Greene County Habitat for Humanity recently announced plans to build a house in Greene county in 2008. Board members and committee chairs have been named, and fund-raising is underway.
“A lot of planning has to be done before groundbreaking,” said Pastor Dave Simonson of Trinity Lutheran Church in Jefferson, chairman of the board. “A family willing to put in 300 hours of sweat equity must be selected, a suitable site must be found, and most importantly, funds to underwrite the $75,000 mortgage must be obtained.”
Donations of funding, materials and volunteer labor will all be important and necessary parts of a successful Habitat for Humanity house. Area businesses, churches and individuals are encouraged to consider a donation to Habitat for Humanity in their 2008 budget planning.
The Greene County chapter of Habitat for Humanity is affiliated with the Boone chapter (Paul Volker, representative), which has completed 13 successful builds. Habitat for Humanity is a county-wide effort. Board members from Jefferson are Norm Fandel, vice-chair, Hollie Roberts, family selection, Dallas Chargo, site selection, Lois Brant, publicity, Gordon Moen, church relations, and Rich Gordon; of Cooper, Chris Henning; of Scranton, Kim Bates; of Paton, Pam Blair; and of Grand Junction, Angie Jewett, secretary, Diane Wise, and Steve Fisher, construction. Representatives from the Churdan, Rippey and Dana areas are encouraged to volunteer to round out the county-wide efforts.
